Because you can't have a little guac, and a big chip.

There are some duos we can’t live without:

Thelma & Louise.
Batman & Robin.
Fries & Sauce.

Your skin has a pair it too can’t live without:

Oil & Water.

Your skin needs both in order to look and feel its best.

It all comes down to balance, so here’s how you strike the right balance.

WATER

If you don’t have enough, your skin’s dehydrated.

Dehydration is caused by what goes on around you: weather changes, not drinking enough water, too much alcohol, basically anything that drinks up all your hydration.

Your skin is 70% water and unfortunately it can’t produce this itself. So it starts to create some sort of moisture – oil. So you’re dry, but oily. That’s just your skin trying to get some moisture back.

But then babes go cleansing mad to get rid of it and your skin doesn’t know what will come next. The result? Patchy, red, irritated – and in some cases – breakouts.

So what do you do?

Hydrate from the inside – and out.

So that means drinking a lot of water and eating foods that help you stay hydrated, such as cucumber, celery, cauliflower or watermelon for those warmer months.

For the outside, I recommend gentle and hydrating face products. On a daily basis, use my Creamy Face Cleanser and Everyday Face Moisturiser. This duo clean and nourish your face thanks to the soothing properties of coconut, grapeseed and sweet almond oils, so your skin doesn’t have to bring out the oil army.

OIL

If you don’t have enough, your skin feels dry.

Your skin produces oil naturally and needs it for moisture, strength and elasticity. Its job is to hold skin moisture in – just like a zip on a pink suitcase. Without it, moisture evaporates.

Too much oil or not enough, can make your skin go through an identity crisis. It might feel all flaky, dull or sensitive. So it’s important to get the balance right.

So what do you do?

There’s a lot of what not to do: over cleansing with a harsh cleanser, or over-exfoliating is naughty too.

I recommend giving your skin a boost of hydration with my morning Glow Mask. Shea and cocoa butters, coupled with cranberry and raspberry seed oils, feed your face essential fatty acids to deeply hydrate the skin. And hello, glow. Use it twice weekly alongside my Sweet Cheeks skincare kit, or whenever you need some mug love.
