I spoke to Andrea Horwood Bux and Dr Simone Laubscher from WelleCo to explain:

“Everything other than fruits, salads and vegetables create a level of acidity in our bodies. We know that disease is more likely to grow in an acidic environment, so too much meat, dairy, gluten tea/coffee, sugar, alcohol (all the fun foods really) cause high acidity. We are not saying don’t have a life we are simply saying you need to be ‘acidity savvy’ and make sure if you eat / drink acidic foods you do something each day to reduce this acidity (like taking our Alkalising Formula, an all-natural daily multivitamin).

What are some things babes might experience health-wise if their body’s pH is unbalanced?

If you are running too acidic you are likely to have low energy, have stomach upsets with IBS symptoms, struggle to lose body fat, feel low/ depressed, irritable and suffer for food cravings.When you make a conscious decision to live a more alkaline life you will have more energy, sleep better, have clearer skin, feel more balanced emotionally, have less cravings for junk, find it easier to lose today fat and overall feel well mentally and physically.

How does a babe find out if she is acidic?

Your body’s pH or potential hydrogen is a tool we use to determine how acidic you are. This can be done with saliva or urine.

What are simple food swaps babes can do to feel better?

I never like to say no to foods and not give a fun and delicious alternative so here are a few ideas that I use with my patients for the goal is to make you look and feel amazing but limit the suffering:

  • Swap out cow cheese for goats cheese or avocado or hummus
  • Swap normal bread for rye or spelt bread
  • Swap regular potato for sweet potato or pumpkin.
  • Swap pasta for quinoa.
  • Swap cow’s milk for almond or any plant milk
  • Swap potato crisps for veggie crisps
  • Swap peanut butter for almond butter
  • Swap sugar with stevia
  • Swap fizzy drinks for sparkling mineral water + fresh lemon/lime
  • Swap milk chocolate for dark chocolate
  • Swap eating junk in the week to only 1 day per week
  • Swap all complex carbs after 5pm for more simple carbs so choose quinoa, sweet potato or butternut squash instead of rice, pasta or potato after 5pm

How can babes beat cravings?

Donuts & wine are great for weekends when you are planning, 1 free meal a week, but your babes should only get these cravings if their blood sugar drops. So the key is balancing these blood sugar levels by eating good clean protein at each meal and having snacks like nuts, hummus and veggie sticks to maintain blood sugars levels along the way.

What are some creative ways babes can eat more greens?

The simple way to take your daily super greens is simply shake cold filtered water or coconut water with 2 teaspoons of Alkalising Formula: full of bio-live, organic and highly absorbable nutrients so you actually feel the difference. Here’s another one we like:

Super Green Smoothie Pops

1 cup cashews soaked overnight in filtered water

1 ⅓ cup filtered water

2 tsp vanilla powder or extract

1 avocado (about 1 cup)

1 cup spinach

2 tbs Welle Co Super Elixir

¼ cup cacao butter (or coconut oil) melted

¼ cup rice malt syrup

2 tbs pure maple

Pinch flaked sea salt

Drain the cashews, place into a blender with filtered water and vanilla, blend until very smooth, this might take a couple of minutes.Add the avocado and blend again until smooth. Add the baby spinach, Welle Co Super Elixir, cacao butter or coconut oil, rice malt, maple and sea salt and blend until smooth.Pout into popsicle moulds and freeze overnight. Remove from the moulds and drizzle with Raw dark chocolate and sprinkle with cacao nibs.

How does a balanced body benefit your mind, energy & soul?

Balanced body allows your mind to be clear, your energy levels to be lifted and your soul to be grounded for you are no longer a slave your cravings. It is amazing how much time we waste thinking about what we are to eat next & if we are in fact going to give into a craving. By getting our health in balance our mind also relaxes for that internal dialogue quietens down and we have time & energy to think about what really matters in life.

Some common babe problems are stress, not sleeping and lacking energy, what foods / life hacks can you recommend to combat these problems?

Stress: 

You need to move your body most days & bounce! Buy a mini trampoline for your home or jump on your kids trampoline. Write in a gratitude journal each day. It is amazing when we shift our focus from what we don’t have to thanking for what we do have how our life changes. Learn to breathe deeply so you oxygenate your body·

Sleep:

Low Energy:
