For fun they press 60kg dumbbells or don gas masks for a circuit. They spend their days encouraging men and women to become stronger both physically and mentally, and as a result they are more happy and confident in their bodies.
I decided one workout with this babe’n couple wasn’t enough, so we combined a few and had a chat. When I say workout, I mean they worked out, and I watched. And when I say chat, I mean I asked them questions like a true fitness fan, and they answered accordingly. Then scrubbed, of course.
I am officially inspired and driven, and I think you babes will be too.
Go on, give it a go.
And maybe eat some beetroot whilst you’re at it. But have a read first.
f: What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up?
S: I am often on early shift, so we’re both up about 5/530am.
M: ‘No Scotty, 5 more minutes’.
f: Then, what’s the first thing you do?
M: Scotty makes me breakfast, #justthekindofguyiam, (and by I, I mean him). So whilst he does that I get up and make the bed and wash my face. Wake myself up for the day.
f: Fitness is the foundation and drive of your lives – Where did this stem from?
M: I did a lot of running and swimming when I was younger, constantly in carnivals and competitions. My dad was a big influence, always encouraging me and he was the one who suggested to me what to do when I had that 18-year-old moment, ‘What am I going to do with my life?’
S: I have been boxing for a long time and then I joined the police when I was 18. I was frustrated seeing unfit cops and wanted to change that. I think it is about prioritising this aspect of your life, and inspiring each other.
M&S: No matter how physically or mentally exhausted we are, we know the feeling after a work out is good enough to overcome that.
f: Do you ever struggle to get going exercising?
M&S: Some days you do get there and feel sluggish and have to force yourself to get started. But once you’re in the routine, you kick that lethargic feeling away.
M: Sometimes I will find it harder to motivate myself to do my own workout if I have been boxing or running with clients all day. This is by far the best way to motivate them, so it is not an option and it is so much fun. I have a moment of uncertainty, but its very fleeting once I get started.
f: Where does your motivation come from?
M&S: We definitely motivate each other, but as individuals are motivated people. So it was only natural that when we came together, this would continue. As individuals we compliment each other, which I think is the makeup of any compatible couple.
Our clients are very motivating, their results and their smiles of relief in the process. The feeling after a good workout is enough motivation for anyone.
f: What advice do you have to others trying to get motivated and active?
M&S: It sounds harsh, but you just have to suck it up and make a start. Vision boards and motivational quotes are good, but you just need to make a choice and go with it. It helps to find goals in smaller things, and challenge yourself whilst you’re at it.
Diet and exercising very much go hand in hand, so if you’re training hard you will be more inclined to eat better, thus your healthy lifestyle begins.
f: What is your regular day on a plate?
M&S: Oats for breakfast, always.
We are trialing a fish diet at the moment, which we’re loving – white fish or eggs for lunch and salmon for dinner. It makes us feel lighter and leaner.
f: Five foods everyone needs to get on board with?
M&S: Spinach, salmon.
Oats – it is great how low in calories they are considering how full they make you.
Beetroot & pear.
f: You two have the day off together – what do you do?
M&S: Take the dog and hit the beach. We love being out in the fresh air. We also might sleep in, a bit. But our body clocks aren’t very tolerant of that.
f: A post-workout beauty / man-scaping routine is very important. What does yours look like?
M: I wash my face after every workout, so important to cleanse from the sweat. I then try and always exfoliate.
S: I do similar, and then moisturise after I shave.
f: Any products or ingredients that are essential to you in this routine?
M: Vitamin E – it is so good for your skin and anti-aging. I also like to wear a tinted moisturiser.
S: I won’t leave the house without sunscreen, no matter the weather.
f: Do you have a #bodylove quote?
M: I’m a believer in luck – the harder I work, the more I have of it.
f: Who should I put on my to scrub / dirty talk list?
M&S: The rock – Dwayne Johnson. He would be incredible. Can we be there?
xx frank
