Not knowing your skin type is like not knowing your BFF’s birthday. It hurts them.

Your skin has a personality, babe.

And if you don’t try to understand it, it can throw a tantrum, such as breakouts or itchy bits.

It’s like taking your vegan friend out for a steak. That friend gets sad.

So here’s the 101 on skin types so you two can be friends for life.

Dry skin.

You wash your face then one minute later you feel drier than the Sahara. Your skin likes to flake when you want to party, and get itchy when you want it to look smooth. I know you.

You need: To be easy on the exfoliating. Harsh exfoliators can strip your skin, so I recommend a gentle exfoliator that loves your skin, too. Replenish it with a face mask that gives rather than takes. You need deep hydration that won’t block your skin, so look for natural oils and butters that sink in deep to nourish & repair.

Oily skin.

Is your nose a bit shiny and maybe your forehead? You could be an oily-skinned babe. The good news is, this will make you look like you’re 18, when you’re 80. The bad news is, you’re more likely to breakout

You need: Hydration, babe. Sounds odd, I know. But oily skin is actually dehydrated skin. Get some hydration into you with water and foods like cucumber or watermelon. Natural skincare with ingredients like sweet almond and coconut oils are also good for you. They nourish and repair your skin while also being lightweight, so you won’t feel any more greasy.

Sensitive Skin.

It’s like Little Red Riding Hood. It wants all the porridge but when it gets it, it still ain’t happy.

You need: natural skincare: no fragrance, no nasties, just natural goodness. Ingredients like coconut oil and aloe vera will soothe irritated skin. Couple that with lukewarm water, not hot water, and you will find your sensitive skin won’t be so sassy.

Combination Skin.

The skin type that likes to keep you on your toes. A bit oily, a bit patchy.

You need: Natural oils. They love the dry bits and the oily bits. Look for rosehip, jojoba or sweet almond oils. They’re full of fatty acids which feed your skin and protects it from the world around you, so your skin won’t feel like a see-saw – minus the fun.

Still not sure which skin type you are? Here’s how you can find out.
