Hair stylist, Jen Atkin, has a client list that reads like the ultimate scrub party: we’re talking Jennifer Lopez, Emma Stone, Gwen Stefani and even Kim K. But somehow she still makes time for me. She had a quickie with me recently, and while we were at it, I asked her some questions too.
I love your haircare line, what made you start The Ouai?
“It’s always been my dream to have my own hair line. I’ve been listening to my clients and followers for years and they all have the same complaints; they want healthier hair and they have a lack of time. I created OUAI as a real line for real life; it’s for the girl on the go that only has 5 minutes to do her hair. No more unrealistic hair campaigns, just multi-use products that cut styling time and nourish hair health.”
I know what’s in your hair. So what’s on your face?
“You mean besides your Glow Mask (obsessed! Just brought it on my trip to Paris FW to get rid of that jet-lag look), firm and fade cream by Dr Simon Ourian, Brow Wiz by Anastasia, Boy Brow by Glossier and Charlotte Tilbury’s Coachella Coral lipstick.”
You tame the locks of the busiest of babes. What’s your fav look at the moment?
“I’m loving bangs with a short, shaggy cut. Any lobs I’m super into; I just got new scissors and Chrissy Teigen was my first victim before the Grammy’s. I’m also dying over the Cher hair that Kim KW is bringing back.”
You’re known to do late night shoots. What do you snack on?
“Pressed Juicery juices, Sugarfish (from Postmates) and whatever sweets I can get my hands on. I basically just graze all day on whatever’s available.”
If my babes have a two-day old blow wave. How do they keep it bouncing without washing it?
“OUAI Dry Shampoo Foam is your new BFF. It can take hair up to 4 days between washes. It literally cleans your hair without soap or water. Massage a ping pong ball amount through your roots like your shampooing and it will dry without messing up your style (promise!!). You have a night off. Where are you? And who are you with?
“I’m in LA, with my hubby. We’re going to dinner at Jon & Vinny’s and going to see a movie. We just built a new house, so we’re working on making it into the house of our dreams (that I’ll always be too busy to enjoy for more than 5 days straight lol).”

“You don’t have a great team working with you! I’d be 20x messier than I am if my assistants and teams didn’t have my back and hustle so hard.”
