They’re the go-to brand for cool girl hair with celebrity clients such as Sienna Miller, Alexa Chung and Kate Middleton. Now they’re some babes I’d love to scrub with. That’s why I’ve made my way to London to give my UK babes professional scrub sessions at Hershesons. In between scrubs, I chatted to the salon’s creative director, Luke Hersheson.
What’s the first thing you think of when you wake up?
My wife, to see if she has left for work!
Oh sorry about that. We scrubbed one Monday morning and we just got carried away (see below). Then, what’s the next thing you do?
Check my e-mails or schedule for day as with my job, every day is different.
And most importantly, how do you take your coffee?
With lots of almond milk.
How do you balance all of your work commitments? Do you ever get any down time?
It’s tricky but I try to have regular steams at the gym to clear my head.
What is the most rewarding part of what you do?
Moments when you stand back and see things come to life. I love it when someone says something positive about our brand at random moments when I’m not expecting it. It makes all the hard work worth it.
Tell us about your creative process:
I like to reference a lot through images when thinking of ideas. I have hundreds of files of hair references I have collated over time which I always refer to when looking for inspiration as pictures help to envisage ideas.
You’ve got five minutes to create a look, what is it?
I believe that most things only take five minutes. I’m not a long-winded hair stylist: I can cut hair in 5 minutes or create beachy, effortless waves in 5 minutes. I’m a big believer that anything shouldn’t take long.
What are your secrets to maintaining healthy hair during summer?
It’s important to invest in good oils to keep hair healthy in hot weather. Kerastase have a great range of oils that I always have in my kit and I also like Moroccan oil.
Tell us a myth about hair:
If you pull out one grey hair 5 will come through – this is definitely not true.
Favourite natural hair helper?
After washing hair, rinse in cold water to help seal the cuticle. Do it with every wash and hair will stay healthy with movement.
When thinking about a drastic hair change should you dive straight in, or sleep on it?
Definitely don’t make a drastic change if you have broken up with a boyfriend / girlfriend, as you don’t want to regret it. You should consider the decision as it’s never good to change your hair as a reaction against a change in your life.

What’s your favorite frank product?
Definitely the Coconut Coffee Scrub.
Frank is lucky enough to be hosted by Daniel Hersheson Salon for the summer. How does it feel to be scrubbed in such a luxurious environment?
I love it! It’s exciting we are the first salon to offer a frank scrub session.

It’s very simple. The most important product to me is James Read’s Clear Bronzing Spray as its quick and easy and no one knows you’ve faked a tan.
Who is at the top of your list to style?
Who isn’t obsessed with Debbie Harry? I reference her all the time. Her hair and her style are just as relevant and as fresh today as they were in the 70s. Timeless.
We both make babes feel great. How do you that?
Give them a good cut. If you have great hair you feel great.
Most attractive quality in a person?
Kindness and selflessness.
Lastly, some frank advice for young hair stylists out there?
The more you put in the more you get out. Learn as much as you can from as many types of hairdressers as you can and never say no to opportunities as every opportunity is a building block.
